Turning thirty and wearing bows

So Rich turned the big three-oh last weekend. Here are some pictures of him enjoying his day.

The banners on the wall are courtesy of his mom! We also caught a ferry in Kingston, which is north of here, and rode to Edmonds. It was s cute little town that he had seen when he went to play with an advanced trombone choir. We ended up at the historical society, which had a nice little museum. One of the exhibits was the diary of a woman who traveled to west to Edmonds from Minnesota in the early 1900s. It was interesting to read her accounts of the town, which was mostly known for it's shingle-making factories. Her first husband John went out to find work. He went farther and farther way until he never came back. So she married a new John and became a nurse herself. They even had her comb, brush and mirror set on display, which look very similar to the ones that my grandmother had on the dresser in my room at her old house. Then, in the basement of the museum, they had a photo of every mayor the town had ever had (almost). It was fun to look at the styles through the years. Especially to see the ones from ten or fifteen years ago who looked like they could have been from the early 1900s themselves! All in all it was a fun day.

Then, later in the week, we took Ruby to have her first bath. She gets pretty nervous in new situations but the girl at the salon said that she was very good and very sweet. When she came out, she looked very different with her hair all blown out and straightened. Her face is a different shape now and she had some pretty little bows in her hair, too. Here is the before and after:
