....Thanksgiving

Well, if anyone is still checking this I have finally decided to stop procrastinating and try to keep it up a little bit more. If I start up where I left off...it's time for our very dramatic Thanksgiving! We lost power on Monday afternoon. It had snowed five inches, after all! Trees were down, people were sliding off the roadway, it was a complete mess. Did the plow it? No. Did they put down sand and salt? No. Did they even salt our walkways here at the glorious Trillium Heights? You guessed it..No! So, cold it was for us! Luckily, we had our fireplace to "keep us warm." Also luckily, I still have the fleece, zip-up, footie pajamas given to me by my good friend Jen several years ago. Those came in pretty handy! We blew up the air mattress, let the dogs sleep in the bed with us and Rich kept the fire going through the night so we weren't freezing. It was an adventure. Almost fun. He even braved the roads to get bread and peanut butter and jelly so we would have something to eat, since we had only fresh vegetables and brita water in the house...not a good time for the fresh foods diet! Tuesday came and...no power. Wedensday...no power and Anna is freaking about...What about Thanksgiving?! Wednesday evening we finally got our power. No hot water or cable but we showered on the Navy base (thankfully the band building has locker rooms) and let the water drip overnight to solve the frozen hot water pipes issue. In fact, it was so cold in our apartment during those three days that we didn't even lose the food in our fridge and freezer! I did have to boil water on the stove Wednesday night as I made our half-cake and wash the dishes like a pioneer woman when I was finished. However, Thursday morning came and, though we could not watch the Macy's Day parade, in went the turkey and our holiday meal cooking commenced. Though our conservative guessing on how much to make was overshot by about four people, our dinner was delicious and we were proud of our first turkey!

The Human Thanksgiving:

The Turkey, the stuffing and the sweet potatoes!

Sweet potato casserole, the mashed potatoes and our table setting

Dessert!

The Doggie Thanksgiving:

Turkey and cranberry in kibble, dinner by the fire, and one stuffed Ruby!

But not too stuffed to cheese for the camera! :o)
