This morning we woke up at about eight and were planning to be on the road to Kentucky by 9:30 or so. We brought many poorly packed bags into the hotel to consolidate and streamline the things that we packed last minute and, therefore, poorly. At 9:29 we strolled out to the car. My job
was to get Otis up in his fort and then start the AC so he would stay cool while Rich went and checked us out of the hotel room. Unfortunately, all that happened when I turned the key was a sad little “click click click” sound. Very calmly, I took Otis back up to the room and Rich called AAA. Even though we renewed our membership mostly for the fancy TripTik (you should get one, they are REALLY cool) we were happy to be able to use them this morning. Luckily, it only took them about forty-five minutes to get there and they told us it was just the battery. They jumped the car and we headed off to Wal-Mart for a replacement battery along with some other supplies that we needed to have to fill in the spaces created by the streamlining of the stuff. We hit the road at 12:24 and were off on our two and a half hour ride to Elizabethtown, Kentucky to spend what was left of the day with Rich’s brother Nathan, his wife Susie, and their dogs Riley and Daisy.
The ride was uneventful with the exception that there was no Welcome to Kentucky sign to help us document the passing of another state. We did manage to find a welcome center instead and a woman kind enough to take our picture with it. Once we finally arrived, we had a great visit with Nathan and Susie and Otis loved playing with Riley and Daisy. There was a huge fenced in yard for crazy, wrestling play, and several rooms indoors for (what else?) crazy, wrestling play! This was our first time to their new house and it was great to see the place and how nicely they have painted and decorated it. We finished the evening with a fire in the yard complete with various neighbors setting off their own fireworks. Despite the rocky start this morning, this was a great day and it was fun to relax with Nathan and Susie who we don’t see often enough!
It was great to have you guys over!! I was also just glad to see that you guys had made it safely, and your car only needed a new battery. Maybe once you guys get settled in we'll maybe be able to take a trip out your way (with Brody) to visit!
