The Car story

It's just no fun to do car shopping. The salesmen always make me mad. They are so pushy! We went into this like we do everything, honestly telling them that we were not buying that day. They ALL asked repeatedly what they could send us home in that day regardless of what we had said. OVER AND OVER AGAIN! AGH! It is SO not my style of business or life! I know that it is part of their job and I know their job is hard. I was as patient and understanding as I could be. In the end, we were lucky enough to get a great deal and get it from the least pushy and slick salesman. I was glad it worked out that way. Now we have to learn a whole new system of car insurance and registration! It is very different from what we are used to. We will be going to see a Geico rep tomorrow morning and, hopefully, he will be able to get us set up so we can use the new car! Nothing new to report in other areas yet. We have gotten through a small amount of the boxes today and Rich has much of tomorrow off because he has a gig at night. Now he's in the parade band and ceremonial band too. Kudos to him because the senior chief approached him at the jazz gig on Sunday (his first gig with the band), complimented him on his playing, and commented that they would have to try and feature him more. It's so nice to see him recognized for the hard work he puts in!

  1. I would like to tell a happy car shopping story. Ok, the part I am telling you has a happy ending, but the part prior to that I am going to leave out because it was sketchy. Just over 2 years ago, I went out shopping for used cars with my honey. We went to a few different places (some sketchier than others) and ended up at a car dealership in town. I had a lady salesperson (ya, I know, salesLADY would also work), which I wasn't expecting. She was really great, and wasn't very big on laying on the pressure. After a few test drives, we went inside to talk over one of the cars, which I was really interested in. She gave me a price based on the year she thought it was, but then she found out it was a newer model and was actually a higher price, which would exceed my approved loan amount. I was devastated, and told her the situation, and that I just couldn't do it at that price because I couldn't afford it. She found a similar model that was in the correct year at the price she had originally given me, but it didn't quite drive the same way (the first was a standard, the second was an automatic). I couldn't get the car I wanted at the price I wanted, so I politely declined and went home. A few days later she called me and said she got her manager to knock a few thousand bucks off the price so she could sell it at the first price she had told me, and would I still be interested. Naturally I said yes, and am in love with my purchase (granted, still paying it off, but on my terms) to this day! :)

  2. Lucky, that IS a happy car story! I guess mine had a happy ending...it was just completely frustrating during it. But I love the new Honda and get excited to drive it, so that's a good thing anyway! :o)
